Crude “Oil” Needs Refining

The San Francisco Mime Troupe’s summer show is necessarily done on the cheap this year, and from the looks of it it’s a rush job all around. My review is in today’s Marin Independent Journal.

Theater review: S.F. Mime Troupe goes lean in ‘Oil & Water’

This review was edited down very heavily for space without my input, and oddly enough all mention of two of the actors (the leads in the first story) were taken out. Also the songs, which were one of the few things I liked.

Also, all the press photos for this show have nothing whatsoever to do with the play that’s actually being performed, which attests to what a rush job this was. Pat Moran, pictured above, wrote the show but doesn’t act in it, and none of the actors are shown playing characters that actually appear in the show. They’re just generally riffing on the theme of oil, probably because they still didn’t know what the hell the play was about when they took the press photos.
