Ho-Hum Haunting

The Woman in Black is an old-fashioned ghost story, with emphasis on “old-fashioned.” My review is in the Marin Independent Journal.

I agree about the play – I’m mystified as to why it was such a hit in London. It’s also a problem whenever a play’s royalty price is suddenly dropped at Dramatist’s Play Service or Samuel French, or it is introduced at these two publishers. Seems that way too many Bay Area semi pro companies pick it up. Bay Area theater companies really need to use TBA to coordinate their programming, for the benefit of all. Bigger audiences, more unusual offerings, and freer rein to interpret the play without recent, local comparisons will result.
