Mama Medea, Here We Go Again
One month after becoming a new dad, what could possibly be more appropriate than unveiling my new Medea play? Well, pretty much anything would be more appropriate, I guess, but I am undeterred!
On Friday the 13th of November the San Francisco Olympians Festival presents a staged reading of my full-length play KILL YOUR DARLINGS, a new story of Medea, at the EXIT Theatre in San Francisco.
If all you know is the whole kid-killing thing, you don’t know Medea. Twenty years and a few more dead bodies later, she’s looking for a place to settle for the rest of her days. Who wants to be the one to turn her away? And what happens when her past catches up with her?
The San Francisco Olympians Festival is an annual event with a focus on the creation of new scripts for the theater in addition to providing a showcase for Bay Area writers and actors. This November we are excited to premiere 30 new plays by 31 local writers. The plays range from shorts to one-acts to full-lengths, and each one explores a different aquatic legend or god from Greek mythology. The 2015 festival will play 12 nights, November 4-21, Wednesday through Saturday, at the EXIT Theatre in San Francisco (156 Eddy Street).
After offering new takes on Helen of Troy in ELLEN’S UNDONE and Penelope, Circe and Calypso in THE WEAVERS in the past two years of the festival, I’m thrilled to announce that now I’m completing my trilogy of plays about great women of Greek mythology with an as-yet-untold tale of Medea in KILL YOUR DARLINGS, part of the 2015 San Francisco Olympians Festival.
We have an amazing team assembled for the reading. Directed by Evren Odcikin, it stars Charisse Loriaux (Medea), Brian Levi (Herakles/Phraortes), Melissa Claire (Circe/Atalanta), Alisha Ehrlich (Eriopis/Glauce), Dan Kurtz (Thessalus/Medus/Absyrtus) and Heather Shaw (stage directions). For more info about the play and my take on Medea, check out http://www.sfolympians.
The KILL YOUR DARLINGS reading is one night only, Friday, November 13, 8 p.m. at the EXIT Theatre: 156 Eddy Street, San Francisco.
Tickets are $10.00 at the door, and can be purchased starting at 7:30 the night of the show, or in advance for $12 at Brown Paper Tickets (be sure to choose Friday, November 13!).
All shows begin at 8 p.m. Audience members who attend more than four nights of the festival get the fifth free. For more information about each show, head to www.sfolympians.com. A full schedule can be found here.
